Our compact little community was first recognized in the
late 1880's when the B & O Railroad honored Derwood
with a train stop. Today Derwood is acknowledged by the postal service with its own zipcode, although many of the utilities only recognize us as part of Rockville. A brief history of Derwood has been compiled by Jo Seymour* and posted online by Eric Carlson. Check it out!

The following images were graciously supplied by George Albrecht, a Derwood resident, of some of the historic architecture still standing in Derwood. Each of these is further mentioned in Jo Seymour's brief history. Thanks George!

An architectural jewel, this residence was built by one of Derwood's early successful merchants.
