Montgomery County Council
The County Council of Montgomery County is the legislative branch of the county government. The three primary functions of this body are making laws on public policy, setting budgets, and raising revenues.
Derwood is split into two voting districts for County Council elections.

Derwood's representatives on the County Council are Phil Andrews and Nancy Dacek.

 
     
 COUNTY LEGISLATIVE  
 Office of Legislative Oversight
The Office of Legislative Oversight primary task is to provide unbiased analysis and monitor the performance of publicly funded activities. Their independent finding are then utilized by the County Council to best fulfill it three primary functions.

The Office of Zoning and
Administrative Hearings

The mission of OZAH is to provide a hearing process for land use, and serves a quasi-judicial function. It is the responsibility of this body to act on the behalf of participants and the public interest.

Office of Inspector General
The office of the Inspector General is charged with the monitoring and accountability of the county government and county-funded agencies.

 

Merit System Protection Board
The mission of the Merit System Protection Board is to oversee the merit system and protect County Government Employees and Job Applicant rights guaranteed under the merit system law.

Board of Appeals
The Board of Appeals hears requests for special exceptions and variances as provided in the Zoning Ordinance.

Montgomery County
Judicial System

Our judicial system includes the circuit court system, the district court system, the state's attorney's office, the sheriff's office, jury selection and services, registration of wills, a clerk of the circuit court, probation intake and monitoring, and a family division. The Montgomery County Board of Education
This county elected body is responsible for upholding the fundamental right of every child to a quality education. They are the the official educational policy-making body in the county, and rein over the entire public school system.
