Rock
Creek Regional Park not only lies adjacent to Derwood, but
is vast and extends southward across the District line via
the southern part of Montgomery County. Among the many features
within easy access of Derwood are Lake
Needwood, Lake Frank, Needwood Golf Course, Needwood Queen
pontoon boat, hiker-biker trails, archery range, picnic areas,
playground equipment, seasonal fishing and boat rentals. The
Park Office, pictured above, is housed in the Needwood Mansion.
Rock
Creek Park's Hiker-Bike path extends over 13.6 miles offering
some of the most scenic views in the county. Lake Needwood
and Lake Frank also host several miles of natural surface
trails for hiking and additional paved trails for hiking and
biking.
Complete
park regulations are posted and should be reviewed as they
are strictly enforced. Among the regulations listed are the
unlawfulness of consuming alcohol on the grounds and the necessity
of dogs remaining on a leash.
